Woodfired Tacos

Menu: very simple and limited, with beef tacos, veggie tacos, a carnitas torta and some sides. They did mention to me that they will be adding some chicken dishes soon, and maybe even breakfast items.

I tried the Pirata taco--beef with cheese and avocado. They cook the beef to order over mesquite. As indicated on their website, the beef is not marinated and is fresh Angus. So the idea is to just showcase tasty wood-grilled beef. The flavor is good, but there was a tad bit of gristle in there. Also, beef is thin so no room for charred exterior/pink interior that would result in truly scrumptious "beef chips". Overall, though, a tasty taco that I would go back for. Cooking it over the wood fire makes a difference.

They also have a side they call Pirate Soup, which is basically pinto beans with some seasonings. Very very tasty. And for some odd reason, they are offering it for 1¢ during 2010, according to the menu. Don't pass it up.

The website and menu are a bit confusing--seems to be making an attempt at some slightly off-kilter hipness and funkiness, but for me it misses the mark. But it is an interesting addition to the area. Will make for a good stop after a shopping trip at the new WalMart going in there at Northcross :).
