Local burger operation that started with a trailer anchored in central Austin. The Burnet location is their first sit-down restaurant location.

Have been anticipating the opening of this new location for Hat Creek. Have never tried their burgers, previously only available at their trailer located near the UT campus. Heard that they opened the drive through today (restaurant not open yet), so I hightailed it on down there to check it out. I was not disappointed.
The first thing to greet you is the familiar old Arby's hat sign on burnet, which they wisely kept for their new signage. The goofy font works well.
Much like the other new burger joints around down (Five Guys, Elevation, Mooyah), they offer a small and large burger, with the small being a single patty and the large having two patties (as opposed to a thicker single patty). The trend seems to be to name the smaller version with a cute diminutive name. Here it is known as the "Little Hat Burger" (at Mooyah, it's the "Mooyah Junior", for example). I was informed that the patties are 1/5 lb., so I opted for the "Big Hat Burger" combo meal. They do offer some cheese options, so I upgraded (for 30¢) to cheddar.
Service was quick (especially considering that they are just opening), no glitches. Burger was exceptionally juicy (some would characterize this as "greasy", but I prefer "juicy"). Flavor was delicious. They tout their "100% fresh, 0% frozen" beef. Much like some other new entries to the burger market here, they also use hormone and antibiotic-free beef. I guess all that must help because the burger was quite tasty. Up there with Elevation in my experience. Superior to Mooyah and Five Guys.
Fries were just as good--thin cut, similar to Elevation's in style, and fresh.
Overall, this is a very good burger and very good fries.

Like many other Austin burgers, it's a good sized burger with nice thin cut fries. It can't compare to P Terry's (who can though?) but it's a good eat. I'd recommend it to anyone looking to try a new burger joint. Money well spent.
