Chips good--thin, hot. Salsa not bad. I ordered the #5 lunch special--two cheese enchiladas, rice & beans. It was just ok--they bake it, so it comes out sizzling hot (too hot to eat), and I think this method also contributes to the disintegration of the enchiladas, turning it into more of an enchilada casserole than distinct enchilada cylinders. Flavor was not memorable, except for an odd grittiness I detected in the enchiladas. Couldn't figure out what that was--maybe the corn tortillas. As usual, I was insulted by a 55¢ charge for my side of jalapeños. I have yet to find a tex-mex restaurant in these parts that does not charge extra for jalapeños!
I didn't see much reason to go back.

Maudies is one of my favorite restaurants in town. The staff at the North Lamar location is really nice and the food is good as well. It is still my favorite hangover medicine (i.e. Enchiladas Perfecto and multiple glasses of Iced Tea).
Chuy's is good too, but it is different. Maudies is great for enchiladas. Chuy's is good for Chuychanga.

I usually go here when the line at Chuy's just up Lamar is too long. They have average Tex-mex, not good, not bad...If you want Tex-mex and you are right there, then go; otherwise, do not plan a special trip to this place.

Every Maudie's I have been to has great food and an enjoyable atmosphere. Prices are good, wait staff has been friendly. They have great chips and salsa- I know everyone differs on the chips and salsa issue, but there's is really worth a try.
Try it out- It's fun, it's tex-mex, it's an Austin classic.
