About Torchy's Tacos

Trailer Park taco stand that has spread to several Austin locations. Looks like a Dallas location opening soon.

Solid Tacos

Finally made it to Torchy's, which has been serving up tacos from a South Austin trailer for quite some time. They opened a spot up north, replacing the failed Burger House on Spicewood Springs at Mesa.

We tried several tacos--the Migas Taco, the Monk Special (eggs with bacon and green chiles), Beef Fajita Taco, plus a few other standard breakfast tacos. All were good except the potato, bean and cheese taco--beans tasted like canned (I did not ask if they were though) and the potato chunks were coated with paprika, which is not a favorite. Fajita taco was good, but wouldn't make the leap to "great"—the fajita meat was flavorful, but not really juicy and tender as if it were fresh off the grill. Favorite overall was the migas taco.

Also had the Chips & Green Chile Queso--queso with green chiles, cilantro, guacamole and queso fresco, which was delicious but a tad pricey. Chips are made in-house and are nice and thin and crispy. Tortillas not hecho a mano, but are made locally.

Overall, good tacos. The inside is pretty cramped and not overly inviting, but they have a spacious shaded patio. The place was hoppin' too, a steady stream of customers inside as well as at the drive-through.
